Sometimes in MS Excel, you might have multiple pieces of information—like names, dates, or addresses—all packed into a single cell. If you want to split that data into separate cells, there’s a quick and easy way to do it using a shortcut key. No need to manually copy and paste! In this blog, we’ll show you how to convert cell data into multiple cells step by step, using a simple shortcut that saves time and effort. Let’s make Excel work smarter for you!

🔹 Step 1: Select the Data
First, select the column or cells that contain the combined data.
Example:Jack Thomas — written in a single cell.
We want to split it into two separate cells — one for “Jack” and another for “Thomas.”
🔹 Step 2: Use the Shortcut Key
Excel has a built-in feature called Text to Columns, which helps to separate combined data easily.
👉 Shortcut Key: Alt + A + E
This shortcut directly opens the Text to Columns wizard under the Data tab.
🔹 Step 3: Choose “Delimited” Option
When the wizard appears:
- Select Delimited (because your data is separated by spaces, commas, or another character).
- Click Next.
🔹 Step 4: Select Your Delimiter
Now, specify how your data is separated:
- Space → for data like
Priya Saraswat - Comma → for data like
Delhi, India - Tab or Other → if your data uses a custom separator
Tick the appropriate delimiter and click Next.
🔹 Step 5: Click “Finish”
Finally, click Finish and Excel will automatically split the text into separate cells.
